8/18/2023 0 Comments Cell phone photosphere tripod![]() In the bright scene below the Pixel XL's standard exposure shows pretty harsh contrasts and some highlight clipping on the tree trunks and on the footpath. It can even help get a usable exposure when light levels are extremely low, so leaving it on permanently is not a bad idea at all. Unlike the HDR modes on most smartphones Google's HDR+ mode not only increases dynamic range in high-contrast scenes, but it also reduces noise and improves detail in low light conditions. The good news is that, thanks to the Pixel's powerful processing, there is now only a very minimal delay when capturing HDR+ exposures, meaning you can leave the mode activated or set to Auto without any real penalty. HDR+ on the Google Pixel works in the same way as we've seen on Nexus phones before. ![]() Both are supported by the Pixel hardware but not implemented in the camera app. You'll also have to revert to the latter if you want manual control over shutter speed and the ability to capture DNG Raw files. There are no built-in filter effects but you'll find those in the Photos editing app and there are plenty of free options in the Google Play Store. Lens Blur blurs the background to simulate the shallow depth-of-field of a DSLR. ![]() There is an unusually large selection of panorama options and Google's 360 degree Photo Sphere mode. The Google Pixel camera comes with many of the features we have previously seen on the company's Nexus devices.
